Portugal at Last

We left Washington DC at 2:35pm on Friday September 9 and finally made it to our albuergue in Oporto Portugal at 2:30 on Saturday September 10.  We had flight delays and a long lay over in Madrid Spain but did finally get to our destination and what a welcome sight it was.  I am reminded of the beauty of Europe and how much I love visiting here.  The architecture is stunning and the lifestyle less hectic than in the US.  And did I mention the food and wine?  We had trouble finding a restaurant and ended up in a small deli sort of shop where we had the most wonderful cheese, meat, salmon, and bread along with some wonderful vino tinto (red wine).  It was all very nice.  We then walked down to the local pastry shop and had a sampling of pastries.  Also good!  After some walking around and picture taking we came back to the albergue and with a shower jumped into bed for a well deserved good nightºs sleep.  So it is sunday morning--another day we will spend here in Porto seeing the sights, tasting the Port and getting ourselves psyched up for hefting the packs onto our backs to begin our walk tomorrow Sept. 12.  So until then...
